Family Ministries Milestones
Peace Family Ministries believes that family is the most valuable resource for faith development. Our Peace Family is dedicated to supporting and strengthening your family through various programs, activities, and resources to help develop confident followers of Christ.
With LOVE, SERVE, & GROW at the heart of Family Ministries, we’ve designed various milestones that show Peace’s commitment to providing consistent faith development opportunities, as we pursue our faith through these intergenerational experiences.
Welcome to the Family!
Leaders from the Family Ministries team will visit your home with a gift of welcome to your new baby.
Backpack Blessing
As soon as child enters preschool all the way up through 12th grade will be invited to bring their Backpacks to worship for a very special prayer as they start school each year.
First Bible
Children ages VPK 4/5 will receive their very first devotional Bible. Families will be encouraged to spend time each day reading the stories and sharing together in the devotions.
Intro to Kids Zone
Children ages prek and up will be welcomed into our Kids Zone for age-appropriate Bible Stories and Lessons.
Mission Minded Kids
Kids will begin the mission journey by participating in collections and service projects by sorting items, making cards, and collecting small amounts of money to support larger mission opportunities.
Communion is for Everyone!
At Peace Church we have an open table. That means that anyone is invited to share in the Lord's Supper. Parents and their children will be encouraged to attend a one-time class that teaches them the meaning of communion. Their dedication will be honored during a worship service to commemorate this special accomplishment.
We All Worship
2nd and 3rd graders will have an introductory class that talks about worshipping together. They will then start worship with their families, and join us back in the Youth Room for Kids Worship, to return for communion and remain with their families through the end of worship.
Second Bible
Kids entering 4th grade will receive during worship a more age-appropriate Bible and spend 4 weeks learning how to use it. Parents will also have a one-time session on how to assist their child in this new milestone.
Using Your Bible
We will host a class that helps students learn how to navigate and best use their Bible to help them learn, grow, and develop their faith.
One-Day Mission
Kids will have the opportunity to serve during one day mission opportunities such as Random Acts of Kindness or serving at a local mission opportunity.
Money Talk
Kids ages 5th grade will learn how to handle money God’s way. This will be a 4-week class that teaches how to give, save and spend it in a way that honors God. Parents will have a one-time session on how to assist with this milestone.
Learning the Apostle's Creed
As a 6th grader, students will learn about the importance and history behind the Apostles Creed in a 2-week session. By the time they leave 6th grade, they should be able to recite it by heart.
Serving in Worship
Kids who have graduated into 6th grade will be encouraged to volunteer and help with Kids Worship.
Peace Youth
As students finish their time in elementary school, they will be encouraged to attend a 4-week session during the Summer to connect with our Youth Coordinator and learn about Peace Youth. Starting in August, they will be invited to attend any of our Peace Youth activities.
Being UMC
There will be classes and opportunities for students to learn more about what it means to be United Methodist, with it's long history, breadth of connection, and exciting Spirit-led direction.
Confirmation
Kids ages 8th grade and up are encouraged to join us for a 10 week session beginning in January to learn what it means to be a Christian. This is in conjunction with Baptism and a time where a student hopefully is ready to make the decision themselves to continue to follow God. Confirmation Sunday coincides with Palm Sunday with an overnight retreat to help commemorate their time together.
Local Mission Trip
Kids in 7th grade will spend a 2 week session on serving others. Parents will also attend a one-week informational meeting on what it takes to develop a servant's heart. Then, students will be encouraged to attend the Middle School Local Mission Trip, which usually takes place the 3rd week of June.
Being a Disciple
9th graders will be placed in a discipleship group that will last their entire 4 years of high school. They will learn what it means to walk together in Christ together.
Spiritual Gifts
While Spiritual Gifts are discovered during Confirmation, 10th graders will be encouraged to participate in a deeper look into who God has created them to be through their Spiritual Gifts.
Youth Leadership Team
Upon completing the Spiritual Gifts milestone, a student will be encouraged to join our Youth Leadership team to help guide the direction of Peace Youth. A student must be on the board for one year before they can secure a board position. The Youth Leadership Board meets once per month.
High School Retreat
High schoolers will be invited to the annual Retreat, where relationships are deepened, callings are explored, and faith continues to grow.
Out of State Mission Trip
As students continue on their faith journey, they will be invited to participate in an out of state mission tripusually taking place the 2nd week of June. Parents will participate in an informational meeting to gain a better understanding of how their student can take full advantage of this experience.
Commissioning
High School Seniors will participate in one last Retreat of their very own called the Rite. It is during this time they will reflect upon their past, present and future reminding them that they belong to Christ and that Peace Church is always their home. Then, on Senior Sunday, the church celebrates all the student has become. They will participate in Sunday Worship, but also celebrate with a luncheon, a brief ceremony and signing of the cross.
